TRAVEL WRITing

ESSAys

I didn't think of myself as a writer until I walked 500 miles across Spain on the Camino de Santiago in 2009. Halfway through the hike, the narrator in my mind started to speak up, at times sounding like Forrest Gump and other times like Diane Lane in Under the Tuscan Sun. Eventually, that narrator sounded like me.

I got home, started a blog, and realized that the hike had changed how I wanted to live my life. So I walked another 500 miles across Spain in 2017. And then another 200 through Portugal in 2019. These hikes are now a permanent part of my life, and I have another Camino planned for 2020 and hopes for other pilgrimages around the world in the future.

I am currently completing a book about my ongoing journey as a secular pilgrim and the growing community of inclusivity on these ancient roads.
